Richard Carpenter

Richard is currently Information Manager at the UK Hydrographic Office. He has worked there since 1979 with most of his time in various production and standards’ areas across the business. Most notably he defined the concept of and standards for Additional Military Layers (AML) – the widely-used standard for hydrographic situational-awareness information. He is a Fellow of the Institute for Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) and a Chartered Marine Technologist. On Council since 2010, he took over as Chair of the Membership Committee in 2015 and was elected Vice President in 2016. Beyond cartography, Richard is actively involved in his local church and is a school governor.
