She has an MA in Geography from the University of Aberdeen and a Postgraduate Diploma in Cartography from the University of Glasgow. Her professional career spans over 30 years in cartographic publishing culminating in being awarded an MBE in 2004 for Services to Cartographic Design. She is a Chartered Geographer and Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
