The Ordnance Survey MasterMap Award for 'Better Mapping'
This award is to encourage innovative and stimulating map products derived from, and composed mainly of, Ordnance Survey's MasterMap data. The award comprises a trophy and a certificate and is being run by The British Cartographic Society with the support of Ordnance Survey.

The BCS were very pleased to welcome Vannessa Lawrence, Director General and CEO of Ordnance Survey to present the award.

GIA Intelligent Mapping
3D Strategic Viewing Corridor Map

Their entry '3D Strategic Viewing Corridor Map' displays a 3D viewing corridor from City Hall to the Tower of London.
GIA have taken OS MasterMap topography layer and draped this over OS Land-form profile. They have then attributed LIDAR data to MasterMap to produce an average building height thus allowing them to create a 3D building model along the viewing corridor.
It was the innovative use of height data with OS MasterMap and in particular the intelligence within OS MasterMap that impressed the judges.
