The Henry Johns Award for the Best Cartographic Journal Article
This award will be presented to the author of the best Cartographic Journal article. The winner is selected by the Journal editor, the editorial board and the president of the BCS. The award is being run by The British Cartographic Society with the support of Lovell Johns. The award comprises a cash prize, certificate and publicity in BCS publications and on the BCS website.

Bernhard Jenny and Lorenz Hurni
Swiss-Style Colour Relief Shading Modulated by Elevation and by Exposure to Illumination

The winning article appeared in volume 43 issue 3 and is titled 'Swiss-Style Colour Relief Shading Modulated by Elevation and by Exposure to Illumination' by Bernhard Jenny and Lorenz Hurni.

The first part of the paper illustrates the graphical and technical developments of the past, leading to Swiss-style coloured relief shading, and the second part presents a new computer based method for colouring grey-shaded relief inspired by classic colour schemes.
