The role of 42 Engineer Regiment (Geographic) is to provide field deployable geographic support to Defence. This support is provided by the use of specially trained geographic staff embedded within major Army Headquarters and by the deployment of specialist teams on operations.
Training:
All Royal Engineer geographic specialists are trained at the Royal School of Military Survey, based alongside the Regiment at Hermitage in Berkshire. Officers attend the Army Survey Course and, if successful, are awarded a Master of Science degree in Defence Geographic Information. Soldiers undertake basic training and combat engineer training along with the rest of the Corps before completing Geographic specialist training, becoming a seperate roster within the Corps.
