Special Interest Groups
Membership of the Society represents a wide range of cartographic interest. To cater for these there are the following established special interest groups:
* The Map Curators' Group (MCG)
The MCG is for librarians, curators, map historians and map collectors. A newsletter, Cartographiti, is issued up to 3 times a year; an annual workshop and specialist visit is arranged immediately prior to the Annual Symposium.
* The Map Design Group (MDG)
The Map Design Group (MDG) of the British Cartographic Society is the forum for discussion and exchange of ideas on the principles of good cartographic design. Membership is open to all those interested in map design. BCS membership is preferable but not essential.
* Historical Military Mapping Group (HMMG)
Group members have a very wide range of military mapping interests, with a strong focus on 19th and 20th century military survey and mapping. Talks and visits are regular features of the group's activities. A newsletter is issued periodically.
* GIS Group
Interested in joining like minded people involved in using or creating maps from GIS software?, then this group will interest you. It's a fairly new group that had a discussion talk at the 2008 Symposium, to plan its aims and what it's outcomes should be. Now holding regular meetings two or three times a year.
Please Contact Us for further information or download the Groups membership application form and post to the Administrator (address details are on the form).
Committees
These are groups set up by The BCS by invitation to address certain issues. These pages are here to report their findings to the Society and Cartographic Community as a whole.
* UK Committee for Cartography (UKCC)
The UKCC is a committee established to represent the UK cartographic community in all matters concerning the relationship of the UK with the International Cartographic Association (ICA) and other appropriate international organisations.
