Ordnance Survey have provided the British Cartographic Society (BCS) with an award to encourage excellence in cartographic design and the innovative and exciting use of OS OpenData. The award will be made annually or exceptionally at other times as may be determined by the Council of BCS. It will be given for the most outstanding cartographic use of OS OpenData presented for consideration. Entries will be considered by a panel of judges from Ordnance Survey. The panel will judge the entries on their innovative use of OS OpenData, fitness of the mapping for the declared purpose and the overall cartographic quality and design.
The winning entry will be announced at the Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony at the BCS Symposium in June. The award comprises a crystal trophy and a framed certificate both to be retained by the winner. Ordnance Survey will also present the winner with a prize (see the BCS News for details nearer the time.) The winning entry will also be put forward for The BCS Award.
