Philip settled in Edinburgh in 1973 where he joined the National Library of Scotland (NLS). In late 1979 he moved to the Map Room, where he has worked ever since.
He is responsible for organising the intake of mapping into the map collections, with particular emphasis on the MOD deposits. He is also responsible for the conversion of the manual records for most of the modern foreign (series and flat sheet) mapping into the computer catalogue.
Philip assisted Margaret Wilkes when the BCS Library was moved to the NLS in late 1988 and took over as the Librarian in charge of the BCS Library when she retired. He deals mainly with the intake of exchange periodicals and the maps submitted for the various awards.
