Mark Harrower of the University of Wisconsin-Madison
Unclassed Animated Choropleth Maps

The winning article appeared in volume 44 issue 4 of the Cartographic Journal and is titled “Unclassed Animated Choropleth Maps” by Mark Harrower of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

The paper investigated the potential of unclassed animated choropleth maps as a solution to false patterns of geographic change arising from data classification. It also outlined animated simultaneous contrast as a new perceptual issue in the creation of animated choropleth maps.

Unfortunately Mark could not attend the presentation and so Ken Field, The Cartographic Journal Editor, received the award on his behalf from Howard Hudson of sponsor Lovell Johns.
