Schools Workshop: Restless Earth - Mapping Natural Disasters
Restless Earth is a preconference workshop for year 10 students from local schools, demonstrating how maps are an essential part of our daily lives.
Two sessions will allow over 30 students to attend a practical workshop on mapping natural disasters.
- focus on recent earthquake in Haiti and the problems in dealing with the aftermath of such a disaster
- practical activities in creating mapping to assist aid workers reach the victims
- introduction to the importance of good map design
- integrating mapmaking with GIS technology
The workshop ran twice between 09:30 to 11:00 and then at 11:30 to 13:00.
