Schools Workshop: Restless Earth - Mapping Natural Disasters

Restless Earth is a preconference workshop for year 10 students from local schools, demonstrating how maps are an essential part of our daily lives.
Two sessions will allow over 30 students to attend a practical workshop on mapping natural disasters.

• focus on recent earthquake in Haiti and the problems in dealing with the aftermath of such a disaster
• practical activities in creating mapping to assist aid workers reach the victims
• introduction to the importance of good map design
• integrating mapmaking with GIS technology
