Content: Collection of several hundred estate, tithe, and enclosure maps. OS and other printed maps of the County of East Sussex, from the 17th century to date.

Publications include Sussex Estate and Tithe Award Maps (1962).

Houses part of the collection of the Sussex Archaeological Society (see below): circa 2000 estate and manorial plans, railway, road, military and waterway plans, etc., from early 17th century; including the following special collections: WILLIAM FIGG COLLECTION of Lewes (ca.1,OOO maps and plans, working drawings and notes, early 19th century); COURTHOPE OF WHILIGH (39 estate maps from 17th century); FULLER OF BRIGHTLING (15 estate maps from 17th century); GAGE OF FIRLE (2 volumes of estate plans for Sussex, other counties and America, from 18th century); PELHAM of Stanmer (12 plans of 18/19th century estates); SHIFFNER of Hamsey (10 plans of 18/19th centuries); and GRANTHAM Barcombe (19 estate and county plans from 17th century).

Tithe maps and inclosure awards, and some estate maps have now been scanned to a high resolution. They can be viewed on our new public access PC in our Search Room, and are also availble for purchase.

80% plus of the lists holdings are now on the Access to Archives website (www.a2a.org.uk).

Some modern air photographs of Tameside, and c.1960 for Stalybridge.
