Are cartographers still using FreeHand these days or has everyone migrated to Illustrator?
Reason I ask, there are features we use in FreeHand that are just not available in Illustrator.

Interested in opinions

Fill patterns.

How can I create an amendable pattern for an area quickly and easily without having to first create the pattern myself then use a cropping mask. I've aslo tried with the standard pattern swatches - but although I can rotate and scale to get the look I want I then can't change the colour.

What I want is an easy to implement line style that I can change if I need to later on (like FH did!!)

Almost everyone in the cartographic visualisation side has moved to Illustrator. Not by choice in many cases but because Freehand is no longer supported. However it is useful to retain Freehand for those things that Illustrator fails to do, such as joining multiple line segments in one go. Then exporting into Illustrator.

Better to burn out than to fade away
