National Monuments Record of Wales

Royal Commission on the Ancient & Historical Monuments of Wales (RCAHMW)

Approx. 30,000 sheets covering Wales only. Includes various editions of the OS 10,560 County Series and 1:10,560/1:10,000 NG series. Many sheets carry RCHM manuscript notes about archaeological features. A set of 1:2,500 maps for Wales and an incomplete set of the 2nd ed. 1:2,500 County Series. The latter are the original surveyors' working maps, and carry survey information which underlies the published information. Some sheets were not actually published at this scale, and are therefore probably unique.

Detailed archaeological records include extensive collections of air photographs, terrestrial photographs, measured drawings, surveys, engravings, written records, etc.

Since 1983 the Commission has been responsible for the depiction of archaeology on OS maps, and the mapping and other records associated with this are held.
