Circa 2,800 local maps and plans. Historical maps from the 16th century; town plans and estate maps from the 18th century; railway and boundary maps from the 19th century. OS maps from 1852 to date (all scales). Geological survey maps (1:10,560). Current shopping centre plans.
About 500 aerial photographs of Edinburgh are also kept in the Edinburgh Room.

Circa 3,000 sheets, including 17th century (e.g. Mercator 1630, and Pont 1654). OS maps of Scotland (1855 to date, including 1:1,250).
A set of current OS 1:50,000 of Scotland is available for both reference and loan.
Reference Library

OS maps for Great Britain at 1:50,000 and for other European countries at scales ranging from 1:100,000 to 1:250,000. UK and International street plans.
A reader/printer is available for copying historical maps on aperture cards. There is no photocopier.

Mon-Thurs 1000-2000; Fri 1000-1700; Sat 0900-1300. Closed New Year's day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, May Day, Spring Holiday (local), Autumn Holiday (local) and Victoria Day (local in May).
