Ca. 1,250,000 maps and 20,000 atlases. Worldwide coverage of topographic and thematic maps and atlases, printed and manuscript.

Practically complete coverage of all OS maps (both geographically and historically) and catalogues. OS Landline / MasterMap deposited annually since 1998.

Special collections include the GOUGH COLLECTION of British local topography (16th to 19th centuries); the TODHUNTER ALLEN COLLECTION of British local topography (mainly 18th and 19th centuries); and the Sheldon tapestry maps of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, and Worcestershire (ca. 1590).

University of Oxford School of Geography map collection incorporated during 2005.

Over 1,000,000 aerial photographs, largely of Commonwealth countries.

The Weston Library offers books, bibliographies, and reference works on cartography; numerous cartographic CD-ROM packages and mapping software.

Publications include: Treasures from the Map Room: a journey through the Bodleian collections (2016, Debbie Hall); All at sea: the story of navigational charts: an exhibition to celebrate two hundred years of the Hydrographic Office (1995), Street mapping: an A-Z of urban cartography (2003), The Gough Map: the earliest road map of Great Britain? (2007, Nick Millea).

Mon-Fri 0900-1900; Sat 1000-1600. Closed Christmas Eve to 1 Jan (inc.), Easter weekend.


Access to members of the University of Oxford. Others on recommendation. Prior appointment is necessary for some superseded series, and desirable for most maps.
