Circa 75 000 map sheets shelved on closed access; many atlases and gazetteers shelved as part of the Library's stock. World-wide coverage, but with emphasis on the British Isles and Western Europe. Mainly topographical, with a secondary emphasis on geological maps. Good collection of older atlases. GB: Complete modern O.S. coverage at 1:50 000 and 1:25 000. Comprehensive historical coverage at 1:63 360 for whole country, and southern England for larger scales. Some pre-1900 non-O.S. maps and facsimiles for Reading and Berkshire. Varied collection of thematic maps, including geology, soils and land use series.

Circa 6 000 air photographs, mostly Reading and Berkshire. Some foreign sets eg Tunisia, Norway.

Opening hours

Mon-Fri 0900-1700 Closed between Christmas and New Year, and during Easter Week.

Access

Visitors from outside the University should make an appointment. Loans restricted to staff and students of the University.

Facilities

A4 and A3 colour copying and scanning available at the discretion of the Map Librarian.
