COVID-19 update

During these difficult times, I do hope that you and those close to you remain well and, where relevant, working from home. Our thanks and gratitude go to all contributing to essential services during these events.

As you will have heard, we took the difficult decision to cancel this year’s conference. Given the recent government warnings that restrictions may need to be in place until at least the end of September, we believe that that remains the prudent course of action.

I would though like to take an opportunity to assure you of the Society’s continuing activities and resources. Now may be a good time to look back through the wealth of material available either on our website or that of our Journal publishers: Taylor and Francis. Click here to go straight to The Cartographic Journal content. While some is available to all, the majority will need your member login.

I’m pleased to be able to say, that in addition to our material, we will soon be hosting the archive of material – Bulletins, Newsletters, etc. – from the Society of Cartographers.

Our Council and committees had already begun to use video conferencing as an alternative to some of our face-to-face meetings and so extending this practice will ensure that the Society can continue to be run efficiently and professionally. Within the constraints of these days, the admin office remains fully functioning and can be contacted in the usual ways.

Stay safe and do please remain in contact.

With all good wishes,

Richard Carpenter

President of the British Cartographic Society
