This directory lists the major map collections in the UK. It is freely available subject to the Society's Terms and Conditions.

Armagh County Museum


Small collection of some 300 items; mainly historical, topographical, geological and transport maps.

Armagh Robinson Library (formerly Armagh Public Library)


An independent foundation established in 1771 by Act of Parliament and under the control of a Board of Governors and Guardians.

Collection: 1835-1840 Ireland Ordnance Survey maps, atlases, local maps.

Linen Hall Library


Circa 400 Irish maps, subdivided into Ireland, Provinces, Counties and Towns.

Agricultural Development and Advisory Service


Circa 20,000 maps, including OS of Great Britain at 1:50,000; England and Wales at 1:10,000 and 1:25,000; Administrative areas maps of England. Departmental maps covering various topics including agriculture, geology, land drainage, environmentally sensitive areas, less favoured areas, nitrate sensitive areas. Sea fisheries atlas of the British Isles.


Rhondda Cynon Taff County Borough Council


Approx. 350 maps. Maps are mainly of a local and historic nature. Collection includes tithe maps ( Penderyn 1840, Llanwynno 1842, Aberdare 1844), and OS 1:2,500 (County series Aberdare and Llanwonno 1875, 1900, 1920, 2002). Also some 25" to the Mile Aberdare, Railway Maps Aberdare 1844, Taff Vale Railway 1856. Smaller scale OS maps for Wales.

Aberdeen City Council


Estate, turnpike road, harbour, and Ordnance Survey maps, 18th-20th centuries.

Clackmannanshire Libraries


A small number of mainly OS maps for Scotland (1:50,000 and 1:25,000), and for the local area (1:1,250 on microfilm). Some local 19th century maps.

About 2,000 local photographs, negatives and slides, including air photographs.

Clackmannanshire Archives, which operates through Alloa Library, holds a small number of rolled estate plans and OS maps.

Angus Council


Collection is divided between the Arbroath, Brechin, Forfar and Montrose Museums. Prior notice preferred.

Approx. 350 maps, including local OS (i.e. an almost complete set of recent OS 1:10,000 maps for Angus). Historical (17-19th centuries), archaeological, geological, botanical, soil survey, road, railway and electoral maps. Census maps for Angus.

Publications include Pont & Gordon's Angus (ca. 1640) and John Wood's plans of Arbroath, Brechin, Forfar and Montrose (1822).
