Archive maps comprise 19th century rating maps (Manchester); those in family collections,; those in various business collections; some deposited plans of public utilities; local area railway plans. Non-archive maps comprise circa 11,000 sheets plus 2,000 aperture cards. Historical and current maps of the Manchester area; some coverage of Lancashire, Derbyshire and Cheshire. Current 1:1,250 maps for the city, and 1:2,500 for the Greater Manchester area.

Opening hours
Monday to Thursday are 9am to 8pm, not 10am to 8pm. (Hours for booking and viewing material in the Archives section are Monday to Thursday 9am to 4.00pm only.)

Prior appointment only necessary for archive maps.
Archive maps cannot be seen on Fridays and Saturdays
Facilities
Photocopying and photography available, depending on size and condition.
