Science Museum

 Approx. 2,500 sheets (excluding OS and Geological Survey maps) and 100 atlases. General collection, with bias towards geological mapping. Some 18th and 19th century material, but mostly 20th century. However few maps now acquired. Various OS sets (some incomplete) including the 1:63,360 Old series (1844-60), and the 1:10,560 2nd edition (1890s-1914). Modern OS series at scales of 1:25,000 and 1:50,000.

Various Geological Survey sets (incomplete) including the 1:63,360 New Series (1871-1982) and the 1:10,560 for the later 19th century (1845-94).

Special collections include early railway and canal maps, mostly British. The ARCHIVES OF S. PEARSON AND SON include many maps of areas in which the company was involved, world-wide (a few in manuscript). The SIMMONS COLLECTION Includes many maps (mostly OS 1:63,360) annotated to show windmill and watermill sites.

The Library and Archives at Wroughton is free to visit and open to the public and researchers on Fridays, 10.00–17.00, by prior appointment only.
