Support for schools and higher education
BCS has a role to support the development of cartography and the better use of maps in all levels of education through teaching and research initiatives.
BCS runs the Restless Earth Programme for schools and has developed an Education Resources Hub which is available through the GeoViz Resources Centre. We work closely with the Geographical Association (GA) to increase awareness of why maps matter for teachers as part of their geography and humanities curriculum.

It also offers bursaries to research students who wish to present at international conferences run by the International Cartographic Association (ICA), particularly the regional event held in Europe.

The BCS is working with The Royal Geographical Society (RGS) to establish Continuous Professional Development (CPD) by linking all our events to the RGS Chartered Geographer Progam.
