Individual and Corporate Memberships
Do you love maps? Work in the cartographic and data visualisation industry? Study or work in an educational setting? Curate maps? By joining the Society, you will become part of an engaging network of people, all with an interest in maps and mapmaking. We have different categories of membership to suit all levels of interest.

Membership runs from 1 January to 31 December each year. If you join during the year, you will receive any publications already published in that year (either printed or online).
​
Please Note
Overseas members pay the UK rates and will receive all our publications including Maplines, digitally. If you would like to receive hard copies you may do so, but we will charge extra to cover postage. The annual postage rates for 2025 are: Europe £20 and Rest of the World £30).

Membership Criteria​
Full: Our most popular category aimed at those working in the cartographic or geodata visualisation industry, or who are simply interested in maps and mapping. Annual fee £45.
Affiliate: Open to anyone at any age, this is a good entry-point if you have a general interest in maps and cartography. Annual fee £25.
Student: Full time students in Higher or Further Education are entitled to FREE membership of BCS if they are able to provide proof of student status. This can be a student email address or a Proof of Status letter from an educational institution. Note: It is assumed students will have access to the online version of the Cartographic Journal through their institution. If this is not the case access can be provided by the BCS.
Small corporate: This category delivers good value for cartographic businesses with less than 20 employees or an annual turnover of under £500,000. Annual fee £110 + VAT.
Corporate: Open to larger organisations involved in cartography and the geodata visualisation industry, such as geo organisations, institutions or map publishing companies. Annual fee £220 + VAT.
Members from around the globe​
Our membership is not just from the UK but many other countries around the world as the maps show. Overseas members pay the same as UK members but only receive our publications digitally. You can pay for the postage if you would like to receive print copies.
