Industry Partnerships
Working in partnership with other groups to promote better geography and mapping
BCS has signed Memorandums of Understanding with several professional bodies and organisations to further the study, promotion and support of the cartographic and geovisualisation sectors.
Our members benefit from these partnerships, through discounted access to events and networking opportunities.
Association of Geographic Information (AGI)
The Association for Geographic Information is an independent and impartial organisation that represents the UK geospatial sector. Working with members and the wider community, the Association successfully influences government policy, delivers the highest quality of education, and provides a lead for best practice across the industry. Established in 1990, members of the Association for Geographic Information enjoy unrivalled networking opportunities, a framework to learn new skills and the support to progress professional development.

Charles Close Society (CCS)

The object of the Charles Close Society (CCS) is to advance the education of the public by promoting interest in and research into the maps, plans and other activities of the Ordnance Surveys of Great Britain and Ireland and by publishing the results of such research.
The MoU is intended as a framework for the partners to raise awareness, promote membership, and encourage attendance and participation at in-person and virtual events of both organizations.

Geographical Association (GA)
The Geographical Association (GA) is the leading subject association for teachers of geography. As a registered charity their mission is to ‘further geographical knowledge and understanding through education’. The Association is a lively community of professional practice with over a century of innovation behind it and an unrivalled understanding of geography teaching.

The parties entered into an agreement, referred to as an “ad trade agreement” where we both promote and support events and activities through newsletters, social media, ad campaigns etc.

Government Geography Profession (GGP)

The Government Geography Profession (GGP) carries out valuable work collaborating with organisations that are not public bodies but have aligned objectives where they can engage and deliver on mutual aims. The GGP works with the Geospatial Commission (GC), which provides independent oversight of its activities.

As organisations whose aim is to further better use of geography within the UK this MoU provides a framework that both the GGP and BCS can work within to successfully collaborate on shared goals. This includes promoting innovation with geography and supporting government geographers with appropriate resources.

International Map Industry Association (IMIA)

The International Map Industry Association (IMIA) is a global organisation that represents the world of maps. IMIA brings together leaders from across the spectrum of mapping and location-oriented businesses to connect, share and learn.

The goal of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is to engage with complementary affiliate organizations to raise awareness, promote the value of membership, and drive attendance and participation at in-person and virtual events of both organizations.
